Queen Margaret’s School Fees
You’ll find information on our independent school fees for full, weekly, flexi and day boarding below. In addition to our core fees we endeavour to support all girls in their individual talents and as such offer a range of Scholarships and Bursaries.
QM offers generous discounts on boarding fees to supplement the CEA for children of personnel serving in the Armed Forces. You can read more about our Scholarships, bursaries and Armed Forces family discounts by clicking the links below:
We also offer a discount of 5% off the core fees of your eldest daughter when sisters are attending QM together, up to a maximum of 15% discount per family when three or more sisters are in school.
Queen Margaret’s Core Fees 2022/23
- Day and Flexi Boarders may arrive at school after 07:30 and depart up to 19:30 on full school days; there is no charge for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
- A Flexi Boarder can stay in school as and when needed and the number of nights is not restricted by those included in the fee. Nights stayed need not be on a fixed night or number of nights each week. Similarly, a Day girl can stay as and when needed subject to there being available accommodation.
- The Flexible Boarding fees include an average of one, two or three overnight stays per term week; these nights can be aggregated over a term to enable a girl to stay as and when needed.
- All Flexible Boarding fee options include two additional nights each term for a girl to stay in school at the start of term. Day girls are also welcome to stay, subject to there being available accommodation, and will be charged at the additional overnight stay rate.
- All Saturday nights will be charged at the full additional overnight stay rate and are not included in the core fee.
- Overnight stays not utilised in a term cannot be carried forward to another term and will not be refunded.
- Terms can be of different lengths and hence the number of nights included in each fee will vary term by term.
- All additional nights in excess of those included in the fee are charged at the full additional overnight stay rate.
- Flexi Boarders have an allocated bed and dorm. This may not be the case for Day girls.
For non-UK/EEA students at QM, we have made our full boarding fee as all encompassing as possible. The non-UK/EEA full boarding fee includes EAL (English as an Additional Language) support, routine weekend activities and the services of a counsellor to support our overseas girls both pastorally and academically. This brings clarity and avoids individual charges for various provisions.
Extra activities include lessons such as Music, Dance, Tennis, Horse Riding, and Personal Training, and LAMDA performance examinations. Charges for these additional subjects and activities apply. Further activities may be offered from time to time where costs will be dependent on the number of girls taking part. You can learn more about Queen Margaret’s extra subjects and activities here.
Our aim is to encourage applications from candidates with as diverse a range of backgrounds as possible, as this enriches our community and is vital in preparing our girls for today’s world.
- Fees are due in cleared funds before the start of each term.
- Unpaid fees may be subject to an interest charge of, currently, 6% above base rate.
- A full term’s notice in writing to the Head is required if a girl is to be withdrawn from the school; if notice is not received a term’s fees in lieu of notice will be charged.
- If you wish your daughter’s place to change to a fee in a lower tier, notice is required in writing to the Head before the end of the Half Term of the Summer Term preceding the start of the school year for which you wish the change to take place. If notice is not received then fees will be charged at the higher tier for the full year.
- Changes to a fee in a higher tier will take effect from the start of the next term.
An Example of the Actual Cost
One of our famous comparisons is the cost of hiring a sitter for 24 hours a day for a month. Let’s use the current Federal minimum wage — $7.25 (an amount significantly lower than most states). For 24 hour supervision the cost would be $174, for 30 days the cost would be $5,220, and that total does not even include food or transportation. Boarding schools cost as much as they do because they are taking care of your teen 24 hours a day, every day. We often have to tell parents the hard fact that one can’t even feed a teenage boy at $500 per month.
The high short-term expense of therapeutic boarding schools and residential treatment centers can give parents reason to pause in their decision about whether or not they need to place their children. But, when you look at your teenager’s life in longer terms, the cost is relatively small. Imagine your teen 10-20 years from now. On the path they are currently walking, will they be loving, caring parents who have a good relationship with their family and can successfully navigate life’s challenges? Or will they be bitter, self-doubting, angry, anxiety-ridden, possibly addicted to substances, and failing miserably at handling this world? Your decision today could possibly make a difference between those two outcomes. While the short term cost may be relatively large in your eyes, we ask you to prayerfully consider the real long term cost of not placing your teenager in a therapeutic boarding school.
Optional costs
Bus service
To and from school is provided by a contracted transport company, Yeap Transport. Geographic coverage across Singapore is good but not guaranteed; costs vary depending on distance. Depending on the distance traveled, fees for a two-way school bus service range between approximately $530.26 to 800,711.97 per term; specific costs by location to each campus are here: Dover Campus | East Campus.
Canteen
Costs for lunch and snacks from the canteen are typically between $4 and $8 per day. In the Primary School, meals are pre-ordered on a monthly basis using an online ordering system.

Therapeutic Boarding Schools don’t generally post their tuition online because they want to discourage you from falling into the temptation of price shopping. The reality is that the cheapest program is not necessarily going to do the most good for your struggling teen. Paying for a good therapeutic program is certainly a sacrifice, but you need to ask yourself, “If my son or daughter were to die tomorrow, what will I wish I had done?” Unfortunately, over the years we have heard several heartbreaking stories where parents did not act in time to help their teen.
The cost of a therapeutic or residential boarding school is usually dependent on the level of care needed. Residential boarding schools tend to cost less than therapeutic boarding schools because they do not offer therapeutic services from trained professionals, while therapeutic boarding schools tend to cost more (though not always) due to their employment of master’s degree level therapists, higher levels of safety precautions, and more staff equipped and trained to handle emergency situations.
If your teen is struggling with depression, ADD, anger, minor drug use, or is struggling at school, a residential boarding school may be a good fit for your teen. A structured and positive environment built to prevent teens from heading down the wrong path is usually enough to get them back on track.
However, some teens need full supervision or lock-down facilities. If your teen is a runaway risk, has threatened or hinted at suicide, is at risk of harming themselves, has participated in major drug or alcohol abuse to the point of near damage to body or mind, or has been diagnosed with ODD, RAD, OCD, PTSD, an anxiety disorder, anorexia or bulimia, bipolar disorder, or any major behavioral disorder, a therapeutic boarding school may be absolutely necessary for your teen.

Teachers live in the dorms with students.
Some, like the U.K.’s Eton College, have strict dress codes. Many American boarding schools ask boys to wear jackets and ties to class, while others only require semi-formal attire on special occasions such as weekly seated dinners. Students are also usually required to take part in study hall and check in with the teachers they live with (aka “dorm parents”) every night.

That’s a common misperception about boarding schools. And maybe that used to be partly true a very long time ago. Today, boarding schools are known for strong academics, the ability to play a different sport every season, and the opportunity to try new things that you may not normally get to try. And because you live where you learn, you build really close friendships too.
Boarding schools are as unique as you are. There are so many schools in so many different areas, so learning more about each one is a good idea. Overall, boarding school students say that their school provides more opportunities for leadership and to try new things. It’s worth checking out!
Here, everything is on one campus, so you can make the very most of your time. From classes, to meals, to social events, after-school and evening activities, every opportunity is all in one place. Plus, living on campus means always being with your best friends.
While the campuses may be just as beautiful, there’s no wizarding curricula or throngs of contemptuous, gossipy teens. Instead, boarding school is like one big family. You’ll have the opportunity to take on leadership roles, try new things, live with your best friends and find out what you’re passionate about.
Boarding schools are as unique as you are. There are lots of different kinds of schools, so learning more about them is a good idea. Overall, boarding school students say that their school provides more opportunities for leadership and a very supportive environment. It’s worth checking out! Have a look at more than 200 boarding schools of all types – junior boarding schools, coed, all-boys, all-girls, learning differences and military schools in the US and Canada.
Great question! Happy, loving families that have strong connections make great boarding school families. And believe it or not, your connections to your family will probably grow even stronger when you’re living away from them. Like sleep-away camps in the summer, after the first day or two, you start to get involved, and that homesickness begins to fade. You’ll get to see your parents for events at the school, and of course you go home on breaks and vacations. About 70% of boarding school students say that boarding school has helped them develop self-discipline, maturity, independence and the ability to think critically. All things that help prepare you for college, and for life.
I’m an 8th grader and I go to a big public school. My parents want me to go to an all-boys prep school for high school, but I feel like I’ll miss out on dating and the fun of a regular high school.
All-boys prep schools are just as much fun as public or private high schools. In all honesty, you’ll probably make closer friends at boarding school because you do everything together – from classes to meals to sports to hanging out on the weekends. And, don’t worry, many all-boys schools are located close to all-girls or coed high schools, so you’ll interact with kids from other schools frequently at dances, mixers and games. Read more about how all-boys boarding schools are intentionally tailored to the way boys learn.
That’s a common misperception about boarding schools. And maybe that used to be partly true a very long time ago. But these days, boarding schools are pretty competitive, and you even have to take an entrance exam to be accepted. So, if you have good grades, you shouldn’t have a problem getting in. Today, boarding schools are known for strong academics, the ability to play a different sport every season, and the opportunity to try new things that you may not normally get to try. And because you live with your friends in a dormitory, you build really close friendships too.
Not really. All schools can have cliques, but at an all-girls school, the competition is rarely centered on one girl or one group competing over another for status or attention. All-girls’ schools provide the opportunity to compete to be your best self. Students cheer each other on and are genuinely happy for another’s success. Another benefit is that there is a lot less pressure to dress up and wear make-up at an all-girls school, so students are able to focus on their classes, athletics and arts activities without pressure to impress boys. Girls have the ability to be in more leadership positions as well at an all-girls school, enabling them to achieve in all aspects of life, not just academics. Learn more about the benefits of attending all-girls boarding schools and how girls feel more engaged and empowered in that environment.
